This list represents some of the projects important to the care of our patients and was prepared to assist you in your efforts to help. For further information, update on these projects, or other patient needs, we recommend you contact Voluntary Service. REMEMBER: Checks must be made payable to VA MEDICAL CENTER and earmarked for the purpose you desire. The continued outstanding support and cooperation of our donors are appreciated.
Co-Pay Assistance
This fund is used to assist patients who are having problems meeting their medical and/or pharmacy co-pay requirements.
Library
The library utilizes donated funds to help provide current reading/education materials for our veterans, i.e. - funds for newspaper subscriptions.
Recreation
Our Recreation staff provides patients with productive diversionary/therapeutic activities in a seven-day-a-week program of movies, social events, sports, games and crafts. We need your support to continue these quality activities for our veterans and also need help with replacement video games.
Replacement TVs
The need for replacements TVs in the hospital and nursing home care units is ongoing. As a hospital, our TVs must meet certain safety regulations; therefore, we ask that organizations make a donation to this account rather than purchasing a TV.
Haircut Fund
Funds for haircuts, shaves, etc., for extended care or indigent patients are always needed. Organizations may want to consider adopting a ward/area as a project.
Pan Tran Tickets
Pan Tran tickets for transportation of veterans to and from Rescue Mission in Martinsburg.
Visually Impaired Equipment
Special items for visually-impaired veterans, i.e. talking watches, signature guides, Braille playing cards, etc.
Smoking Cessation Materials
Funds are used to purchase materials for smoking cessation classes.
Magazine Subscriptions
Subscriptions to magazines for Hagerstown/Cumberland/Stephens City Outpatient Clinics or for clinic waiting rooms at the Medical Center: i.e. People Magazine, Life, Woman's Day, Sports Illustrated, Family Circle, Reader's Digest (large print). You order the magazine and have it mailed to the clinic of your choice.
