Local military family continues tradition at historic chapel - Air National Guardsman Staff Sgt. Joseph Harper and family gathered Mother’s Day for a service at the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs Medical Center’s historic chapel, where in 1981 he and twin brother, Joel Harper, were baptized. Outdoor PA system test scheduled at Martinsburg VAMC - The Martinsburg VA Medical Center will test its enhanced campus-wide outdoor Public Address System (PAS) Feb. 12 between 10:30 a.m. and noon. Martinsburg VAMC will host sixth annual Hospice Open House - In collaboration with community hospices, the Martinsburg VA Medical Center will host its sixth annual Hospice Open House Wednesday, Nov. 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for Veterans, families and the community. (10/31/2012)

VA Medical Center Participates in Nationwide Earthquake Preparedness Effort - Employees at the Martinsburg VA Medical Center will join more than 10 million individuals across the country by participating in the 2012 Great ShakeOut Oct. 18 at 10:18 a.m. The ShakeOut is an earthquake drill providing local communities, schools, businesses and organizations, throughout the State of West Virginia, an opportunity to practice how to stay safe during an earthquake and to practice the protective action of “Drop, Cover and Hold On.” (10/12/2012)

Martinsburg VA Medical Center Resumes Flu Vaccinations - The Martinsburg Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center has resumed seasonal flu vaccinations for eligible Veterans. The best time to get a flu shot is October through December, as the peak of flu season is January through March. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends that persons age 6 months or older receive a flu shot. All Veterans regardless of age should get a flu shot. (10/10/2012)

Martinsburg VA Co-Sponsors Nursing Research Conference - Register for the 4th Annual Nursing Research Conference, cosponsored by the Martinsburg VA Medical Center and Shepherd University. The conference includes two plenary sessions and more than a dozen smaller sessions to choose from. Proceeds are used to fund the conference’s annual scholarship for two participating student selected by the Shepherd University Nursing staff and one VA staff member who is pursuing a degree in Nursing. UPDATE: VA Medical Center operating normal during heat advisory - The Martinsburg VA Medical Center and their Community Based Outpatient Clinics in Cumberland, Hagerstown, and Fort Detrick, Md., and Stephens City, Va. and three contract clinics in Franklin and Petersburg, W.Va. and Harrisonburg, Va. are operating under normal conditions at this time. Patients with scheduled appointments today are encouraged to allow extra time traveling to and from their appointments due to road conditions and power outages. (07/02/2012)

Martinsburg VA Medical Center operating normal during heat advisory - The Martinsburg VA Medical Center activated its Emergency Operations Center today in response to the ongoing extreme heat advisory and the powerful wind and rain storm last night. The medical center is operating under normal conditions at this time. Martinsburg VA Medical Center patients that are without power and need oxygen supplies should contact Columbia Ancillary Services at 800-475-4425. (06/30/2012)

22nd Annual Operation God Bless America Motorcycle Ride - On Sunday June 3, motorcycle enthusiasts from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia will gather for the 22nd Annual Operation God Bless America Motorcycle Ride to raise funds for patients of the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center and honor those who served. The event is attended by Veterans, volunteers, Veterans Service Organizations, community partners, families and friends, all in support of America’s courageous Veterans. (05/31/2012)

International AIDS Candlelight Memorial: Promoting Health and Dignity - Join us on Monday, May 21, for the Martinsburg VA Medical Center’s International AIDS Candlelight Memorial Observance. The event will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. in room 1B-114. During the memorial, we will remember those who have lost their lives to AIDS, as well as support those who are living with HIV and AIDS or are affected by its impact. Participants will also view videos about the history of the epidemic, improved treatment and the importance of getting tested. (05/18/2012)
