Partners and Education
The Martinsburg VA Medical Center (VAMC) provides a full range of services for clinical trainees. We provide learning experiences and mentoring for over 600 clinical trainees a year. Training experiences are provided for medical residents, nurses, allied health professionals as well as business and professional career development internships. The Martinsburg VAMC is an accredited continuing medical education (CME) provider from the West Virginia State Medical Association.
Academic Partners
The Martinsburg VAMC is affiliated with more than 45 universities, with 30 programs represented. We offer residency training in medical and surgical specialties and subspecialties. Associated Health Training is offered in nursing, psychology, audiology, social work, dietetics, rehabilitation and pharmacy.
Each year, the Office of Academic Affiliation (OAA) funds nine medical, dental and allied health slots. The Martinsburg VAMC also participates in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Learning Opportunity Residency (VALOR) program for senior baccalaureate (BSN) nursing students funding three positions each summer for a 400-hour clinical experience.
Veterans Service Organizations
The Martinsburg VAMC maintains a good working relationship with all of our Veteran Service Organization (VSO) partners. We regularly brief our VSO representatives on changes impacting Veterans health care.
A Veterans Advisory Council (VAC) has been established which includes stakeholders from a number of Veterans groups. The VAC meets quarterly.
US Department of Defense
As a participant in the US Department of Defense TRICARE Program*, the Martinsburg VAMC serves as the main referral source for women's health and orthopedic specialty appointments.
