Situation Update

As of Thursday, April 2, 2020 1:33 PM EDT

Martinsburg VAMC Updates:

The Martinsburg VAMC is moving some outpatient services outside, including Anti-Coagulation visits, Pharmacy prescription pick-up, Influenza-Like Illness Station and a walk-in urgent care.

Pharmacy and Anti-Coag:
Curbside pickup is only for urgent and emergent medication pickup that cannot wait for mail. Veterans should contact Pharmacy by telephone if they believe the refill is urgent and cannot be mailed. All other refill requests can be made using the automated refill line and My HealtheVet and will be mailed to the Veteran Pharmacy Pick-Up will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the Anti-Coagulation clinic will be open 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Influenza-Like Illness Station:
We are also operating an Influenza-like illness (ILI) clinic outside by the screening station 24/7. This ILI clinic will be used to evaluate and triage potential COVID-19 patients and determine needs for testing. By moving these services outside we will continue to limit the foot traffic inside the medical center.

Walk-in Urgent Care:
There will also be a new, temporary urgent care located in the O Lot for Veterans from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., seven days a week. This will be a walk-in clinic to treat Veterans with urgent needs who are not experiencing influenza-like symptoms. They will be triaged by a nurse and seen by a provider. Veterans who are displaying influenza-like symptomms will be triaged at the Influenza-Like Illness station.

Postponement of Routine Clinic Visits:

In response to the current COVID-19 public health crisis we have made the decision to postpone all non-emergent clinic visits until further notice. Veterans requiring urgent care will still be seen face-to-face by a provider. Our Emergency Department remains open 24/7 for emergent care.

Visits by Veterans without appointments or valid medical needs are suspended until the transmission of COVID-19 is no longer a threat to our Veterans and employees. We are committed to working with family members and friends to support certain exceptions, while minimizing risk.

We are proactively contacting patients to offer options to convert clinic appointments to virtual ones.

Please do not walk into any of our clinics without an appointment. If you feel you have been exposed to COVID-19 or have flu-like symptoms, please contact your primary care team by phone or Secure Message using My HealtheVet.

Valet Parking has been temporarily suspended. Self-parking will still be available for all Veterans and visitors; shuttle service will be provided to and from the patient parking lot.

Visitor Restrictions and Screening Procedures:

The front gate is conducting 100% ID checks Monday through Friday. Visitors are not allowed at the Martinsburg VAMC except in end-of-life cases.

Veterans and Visitors will be directed to a drive-thru screening station and will be asked simple questions about symptoms and exposure to anyone with COVID-19.

We understand that this could be an inconvenience for many. We appreciate your cooperation and assistance and we hope to make this process as seamless as possible.
