Martinsburg VAMC Updates:

The Martinsburg VA Medical Center and all Community Based Outpatient Clinics require face coverings for everyone entering the campus including employees, Veterans, volunteers, vendors, contractors and tenants.

  • Veterans will be called prior to their scheduled appointments to be reminded of the face covering requirement. Veterans presenting to the Emergency Department, Urgent Care or Influenza-like illness FORTs will be given face coverings if they do not already have one.
  • Employees will be expected to wear face coverings when entering the campus.

Veterans that may have any questions about this policy or face coverings may contact the Veterans Experience Office at 304-263-0811, ext. 3068. Moving Forward, Visitor Restrictions and Screening Procedures:

The Martinsburg VAMC is entering into our recovery phase of the COVID-19 response and will begin seeing our patients face-to-face. We want to do everything we can to ensure your safety and for that reason we have changed some of our appointment check-in processes. For appointments at the main campus or our CBOCs, we’ll ask you to use our new COVID-19 screening tool and wear a cloth face covering. Before your visit, please go to https://www.va.gov/covid19screen and answer the self-screening questions. The screening should take less than a minute to complete. Share your screening results with the staff member at the facility entrance. The staff member will help direct you to your appointment or to get more screening, if needed.

Once you arrive in the parking lot text “here” to 53079 (or the number from which appointment reminders are received). You will be sent a text message acknowledging your arrival and instructing you to wait for further instructions. When the provider is ready to see you, the clinic staff will notify you through a text message to come to the clinic. This will help us reduce the volume of patients in our waiting rooms for social distancing as recommended from the CDC.

We will be performing a centralized check-in in the front lobby of the main facility as well as curbside check-in. Please have your photo ID and Insurance Card available for processing in the main lobby or curbside. We will be directing our Veterans to a waiting room on the first floor in the cafeteria for those that do not have texting capabilities or are walk-ins and we will be in constant communication with your provider/clinical team and direct you to the clinic as soon as they are available to see you. Veterans who have appointments at the HOPE Center will still check in at the HOPE Center. 

Visitors are not allowed at the Martinsburg VAMC except in end-of-life cases. Please do not bring family or friends with you to your appointment unless it is absolutely necessary. We appreciate your support, patience, and understanding as we work to protect you, other Veterans, and our staff.

Outside Services:

Drive-Thru Flu Clinic
The Drive-Thru Flu Clinic is open to enrolled Veterans Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Please follow the signs as the traffic pattern has changed. 

Curbside Anticoagulation
The curbside anticoagulation clinic will be offering point of care International Normalizing Ratio (INR) testing in the vestibule past the main lobby. The clinic is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to noon by appointment only. Patients can call ext. 4794 or 2822 for questions regarding the clinic.

Drive-thru Pharmacy
The drive-thru pharmacy will be available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Veterans will be able to pick up their prescriptions from the convenience of their car.

We are still encouraging Veterans to use mail-order prescriptions when possible. Please allow 7 to 10 days for prescription delivery. Veterans can refill their prescriptions via the phone and My HealtheVet. Veterans coming to the medical center to pick up their needed prescriptions will need to bring their ID.

Influenza-Like Illness Station and Urgent Care Clinic

The Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) Clinic and Urgent Care Clinic are open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Patients that present after the normal operating hours will be directed to the Emergency Department.

Influenza-Like Illness Station
The ILI clinic will be used to evaluate and triage potential COVID-19 patients and determine needs for testing.

Walk-in Urgent Care
This is a walk-in clinic to treat Veterans with urgent needs who are not experiencing influenza-like symptoms. Veterans will be triaged by a nurse and seen by a provider. Veterans who are displaying influenza-like symptoms will be triaged at the Influenza-Like Illness station.
