Martinsburg VA Co-Sponsors Nursing Research Conference

September 7, 2012

Print Version (MS Word)

Martinsburg, W.Va. – On November 1, the Martinsburg Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center and Shepherd University will co-sponsor the 4th Annual Nursing Research Conference from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Shepherd’s nursing education building, Erma Ora Byrd Hall. This year’s theme is "Evidence Based Practice: Blueprint for the Future". Medical center staff and local area nurses and nursing students are encouraged to attend this informative and engaging event.

The conference offers two plenary sessions and more than a dozen smaller sessions, allowing participants to build a personalized learning experience to enhance their nursing practice. Participants will also collaborate to create informational posters about evidence based practice, as well as have the opportunity for individual conversation with keynote speakers.

Nursing Research Council Conference Co-chair Mary Heinen said, “To see students and nurses sharing their experiences and ideas – it’s exhilarating!” Last year’s conference attracted over 130 participants, including nursing students from five different schools and nurses from a variety of backgrounds, and this year’s event expects an even greater attendance.

Proceeds are used to fund the conference’s annual scholarship for two participating student selected by the Shepherd University Nursing staff and one VA staff member who is pursuing a degree in Nursing.

For more information regarding the conference please contact Mary Heinen at 304-263-0811, extension 3696 or Margaret Washington at extension 3896. Shepherd University nursing student may contact Laura Clayton at 304-876-5459.
