Podiatry

The Martinsburg VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV, offers a very robust podiatry service staffed by highly trained and skilled clinical providers.

Left to Right: Dr. Larry Birriel, Dr. Mark Gardner, Dr. Steven Goldman (Chief), Dr. Theresa Fahy

The facility actively participates in the training of residents from the Baltimore VA Medical Center. The VA podiatry clinic is well-constructed for excellent patient care. Each room includes a computer with electronic medical records, digital x-rays and internet access making the patient experience well organized and as pleasant as possible.

The podiatry department has a presence in the following Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs):

  • Hagerstown, Maryland
  • Cumberland, Maryland
  • Fort Detrick, Maryland
  • Stephens City, Virginia

These CBOCs use a teleheath option where an on-site clinical provider is in a video link to one of the staff providers at the main campus of the Martinsburg VAMC providing care close to home for many Veterans who live far from the facility. Additionally, we can provide services over smartphone technology through VA Video Connect. This technology provides for the opportunity for Veterans to interact with a clinical provider from the comfort of home using the smartphone’s camera and speakers. Problems typically treated through this method involve the management of:

  • Diabetic foot problems
  • Skin lesions of the feet
  • Wounds
  • Ingrown toenails
  • Fungal toenails
  • Plantar warts
  • Gait problems
  • Bone spurs
  • Bunions
  • Hammer toes
  • Foot Arthritis
  • Broken toes, foot or ankle
  • Generalized foot pain or numbness
